Age is Just a Number

National headlines were buzzing last week about the median age of first-time homebuyers now being 38 (the oldest ever!), and it got me thinking about age, waiting to buy a home and the great lifestyle of the Central Coast.

Let’s be honest, age in Montecito is more a state of mind than a number. Whether 45 or 75, we are a community of accomplished, active, outgoing people. Around here, 20 year olds and 70-year-olds surf together at dawn, hike Romero Canyon before breakfast, enjoy beach walks, coastal rides, and dinners under the stars. Pickleball is in, e-bikes are everywhere, and life here means brunch at San Ysidro Ranch, cocktails at the Rosewood, and adventure in between.

No doubt, Montecito is expensive, but time and again I’m reminded that it’s worth it. Too often, when buying or selling a home, we focus on the wrong metric. Instead of holding out for the very last dollar, the real success is finding the right home and enjoying it with family and friends, or selling and feeling free to move on to the next chapter.

Monica Senn

Santa Barbara’s own Monica Senn, founder of Monica Senn Interior Design, is turning heads in the design world and her latest feature in Luxe Magazine shows why. Monica is celebrated for her ability to create homes that are warm, layered, and intentional, mixing classic architecture with fresh, modern sensibilities.

Her LUXE feature shines a spotlight on 150 Cedar Lane ($4,495,000), where Monica transformed the home with natural textures, custom furnishings, and curated vintage finds. The result is a space that feels both elegant and deeply personal — the perfect example of her belief that great design should tell a client’s story, inviting conversation, connection, and lasting beauty.

📖 Dive into her LUXE feature to see how Monica brought 150 Cedar Lane to life and why she’s one of Santa Barbara’s leading voices in interior design.
